Abstract

The Indonesian pop music industry has grown for a long time, since 1951 when Irama Records established in Jakarta. The 1950s became the revival era of the local music industry, with vinyl records format used at the time. The design phenomenon and trends on the cover album records also emerged, although still influenced by the western pop design style. The lifestyle of pop idols both in local to global scope, was successfully hypnotizing the youth. Such as the music, which then represented through visual design on the album cover records. The design of album cover records has a distinct visual style from each era. Starting from the 1950s, which the figure of the musician was still be the main point of interest in an album cover design. Continued to the 1960s, where some unique graphic elements began to emerge. The dynamics of those design styles didn’t just arise, but influenced by various aspects. Visual cultural studies became the primary analytical tool in this study, reinforced by supporting theories related to pop culture. Broadly speaking, the 1960s era offers several dynamics, namely social dynamics, development dynamics, cultural dynamics, and dynamics of values.
